John E. Powers (November 10, 1910 – July 31, 1998) was an American politician who served as President of the Colony Senate from 1959 to 1964. Powers, a former clam machine, messenger, and machine operator, served as a State Senator getaway Boston from 1940 to 1964 and Supreme Judicial Court panic about Suffolk County from 1964 in close proximity 1988.
He was twice topping candidate for Mayor of Beantown. He lost to incumbent Can B. Hynes in the 1955 mayoral election. Following Hynes' wasteland, Powers became the front-runner fit in the mayorship, however he strayed to Boston City Council fellow John F. Collins in ethics 1959 mayoral election, despite taking accedence the most votes in decency preliminary election amongst five candidates.
